I was trying to explain where I worked to my 92-year-old grandmother a few months ago and she asked me what MTV stood for. I said: "Music Television." She said she followed but wanted to know one other thing: "Then what does the V stand for?"
The "TV" part of MTV does indeed stand for television, and I can prove it by having you flip on your set and watch. I can also prove it -- sort of -- by directing you to the just-aired MTV segment on Game Developers' Conference.
Want to see how we just don't get it when we cover games on TV? How we're hopelessly out of touch and celebrity-driven when it comes to our news coverage? Than watch the link above. Drink every time a celebrity shows up. (You might just stay sober).
The video autoplays through a series of GDC interviews with gaming bigwigs. Those clips did not air on TV, for the record.
If you live outside the U.S., the link above won't work. But if you still want to at least watch the online-only interviews, check the mirrored versions at iFilm.
Enjoy!
