MTV Multiplayer: Games that are fun to just watch -- what's your list?

Catching up part 2... on Thursday I wrote a Multiplayer entry about "SingStar Pop," "Grand Theft Auto," and "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time." And what do those games have in common? I've found that they are all games people enjoy watching people play.

I do not have a long list of games that I'd consider spectator friendly. What other games would people actually enjoy watching, but not playing? The article considers "Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars," which appears to be a game designed to appeal to a passive audience.

Here's a quick quote from my article:

Games were made to be played. That's for certain. But there's an argument to be made that "spectator appeal" is a quality that deserves praise -- especially for those of us who have to share our TVs.

Check the piece for more on the mysteries of what makes some great games no fun to watch and what makes some... (well you fill in the rest, though, technically I don't really go there)

That's catching up part 2.

I recently had the pleasure of watching, but not participating, in a Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament.

When two good players go head to head it's not much different than a well-choreographed action flick. Get two fast characters together, such as Falco and Mario, and it's even better.

Not to mention the core appeal of the game itself -- our beloved childhood game characters (and Marth) duking it out.

My wife had no interest in video games when we first started dating. The few times I convinced her to try a game or two, she found the controls frustrating and the gameplay boring.

Today she plays Animal Crossing: Wild World at least once a day, and has respectable Guitar Hero II skills. We are even reaching the final levels of The Adventures of Cookies & Cream, a deceptively difficult game with a unique spin on cooperative play from the early days of the PS2.

It began, however, with her watching me play Katamari Damacy. She loved the crazy Japanese music, the quirky characters, and the "amazing feeling of [watching me] pick up a whole orchard of trees at once." The controls were too frustrating for her back then, but she watched me play through the whole first game and a good portion of the sequel.
