ST Exclusive: The Week In Respect

Print the article

This entry was posted on 4/6/2007 4:06 PM and is filed under Debating N'Gai Croal,Interesting turns of phrase.

A friend recently described this here blog as "playfully narcissistic." That's not a bad phrase, if I do say so myself (and why shouldn't I? I'm a great judge of phrase quality). As a result I thought it might be nice to try a new weekly feature about the things people write about me. Now I can hardly print everything. So I'm going to be selective.

Let's see if this works. On with it...

Last week, Newsweek's N'Gai Croal and I published an absurdly, Final Fantasy-long exchange about "God of War II". And, oh did the adoration pour in. :

From Kotaku commenter (e-mailed to me first by my girlfriend, then others): "It will be a cold day in hell before I ever give MTV a chance to deliver a gaming review, good writing or not."

The same Kotaku thread:  "Would it make me a prick to say that I hate both Totilo and N'gai? Everytime I read an article or peice on their respective blogs, they are SO FULL OF THEMSELVES..."

A Slashdot reader said, and I quote: "*crickets chirping*"

From a discussion about the exchange on the NeoGAF boards: "I did not enjoy these - sorry to be contrarian. The seemed very tedious to me."

From a discussion also on NeoGAF about that Wired magazine attack on GTA: "I thought the article was a great read. Between this and the email discussions between Croal and that other guy (Totilo or something), I have some hope for gaming journalism."

The people have spoken! And the "other guy" thanks you, the people.

Have a good weekend, all.
