Game Diary - May 15, 2009: Good or Evil?

infamous

I got “inFamous” yesterday and just started it. I’ll be reviewing it. Should I play as good or evil?

For a refresher, this is what Brian Fleming, studio head for the game’s development studio, Sucker Punch, told me in March about the game’s morality system:

Sucker Punch’s open-world adventure allows the player to gain good and bad karma and earn powers associated with each. There are three tiers of good: Guardian, Champion and Hero. There are three tiers of bad: Thug, Outlaw and Infamous. The title of the game –”Infamous” — would appear to bias the Evil path, but Fleming said the game has been built to encourage people to dabble with both life directions.

The best way to play it, he told me, is to “play it twice.”

I only played about 10 minutes of the game last night — I was too tired to play more — and haven’t had a chance to choose my moral path yet. I can say that I don’t think I have time to play the game twice as Fleming had advised. Suggestions?

  1. I wan’t to play an inbetween. a Kind of tough on crime, good to the innocent kind of hero. But depending on what power-up system is like, i’ll probably end up focusing only on one side.

  2. I normally play good guys, but if you can figure them out in advance, you might just want to go with the path that has the most interesting powers.

  3. I would play it, as whatever the environment compels you to.

  4. Evil always wins because good is stupid.

  5. I always play good in games like this. I just can’t bring myself to be an asshole. Though I’ve heard that Cole justifies his reasons for doing things, so maybe this’ll be different. Plus you get those cool bolts in his hair if you’re evil…

  6. The options are quite Black and white in almost every game that asks the player for choices. I would mostly go according to what I think is right. Or you could take advantage of the fact that it is a points system and hence, just to do good when required, and sometimes when you think it is not of much importance, just do a bad thing for the sake of it.

    100000 -500 shouldn’t be a bother.

There will only be some small thing that happens differntly. and maybe the end boss fight will be different (like gta :P ) just see the youtube vids of things that are in the path you didnt choose :P Saves a LOT of time. And if you really think you’ll enjoy playing that part.. play it. (will save a lot of effort this way too :D)
